We should have a paramount "first family" in our family, through the most senior Manuel Jose line. The most senior living male descendent through the most senior male line should be designated "Te Pouariki o Paniora" or the Leading Post of the Maori-Spanish (Jose) people. He will take on the responsibilities similar to that of paramount chief of Tuwharetoa, to attend to the various activities and events that include Jose' participation.

I am also trying to get into contact with the descendents of Mapuka, the first child of Manuel Jose, especially Apirana II Paku Manuel and his descendents, would be of help.

Kia Ora I have completed the scanning of the OLE JOSE book and both the original and the revised OLIVE BRANCHES books into PDF form and with the help of another Cousin we will soon be able to make them available to those who do not have copies of the books for themselves either in online book form or disc form.

I am also in conference with a jeweller and am in the process of having a lapel pin with the Manuel Jose Coat of arms on it , and am also looking at other ideas for things such as engraved items and house plaques, bumper stickers etc.

I just found this website and saw your message. WOW - that's such nice feedback. I was there at the Marae "Pokai" in "Tikapa" where Jose planted his olive tree all those years ago and it's still standing today!!! We made lunch for you all and it was the first time I saw the spanish side of our family My grandfather "Boyce Morehu Te Maro" was the main speaker on this occasion both in the Marae and the dining room.

I guess growing up I was told stories about our apanish heritage, but never really thought I'd experience meeting you all in person. I was so happy to hear all the stories you guys shared with us and learn more about Jose and his Family.

I STILL want to learn more about you all!! I know there has been an invitation for us to come over to Spain in 2012, and I am extremely interested in coming!!

Unfortunately I don't know all the details??? Would you be able to inform me?? Or is there a website set up with this information??

i recently found out that my Nan Mavis has half sister's and a half brother.
im just wonting to know abit about my whakapapa and where i came from,
my nan has told me quite abit and just think that this could be good for me
so when i have children they will know where they come from.

Tiopira is the maori name for biddle. woww it feels nice to actually be hea. the poem was beautiful...I was born in gisborne, new zealand (ngati porou). nw living in a sml town in taumarunui. My mother Tehaupua keni Tiopira married my father Edward ted pikiou Moana from tuwharetoa. I have 6 siblings, Willie tiopira, Felicity Tiopira, Michael Reardon, Nathan Reardon,Maxine Reardon, and Keith Moana. I have 2 tamariki, Karlos legacy Moana-Saywell (3yrs) and Clairah sheree Moana-Saywell (6mnths). My tane's name is David shannon saywell. It is wonderful to read that you all had such a great experience and time here during your visit to NZ and to meet us 'Joses'. I was sorry that I was not able to go to Gisborne and meet you all as work commitments did not allow me the time away however, I am aiming to go to Spain and visit Valverde del Majano as my late grandfather (a Manuel Jose descendant) didnt get the chance, It will be an honour to go there for him.

Today, seven days after my arrival in Spain, it seems to me a dream what I had with you during the days we stayed together.

Every day since then I had you all in mind, every day I thought, it was the day to sit and write to you to share my feelings, but each and every one I went to bed without doing it. Why? Yes, because there are so many things I want to say, such a deep feelings I want to share, that I feared the "paper" wouldn’t be able to capture them. I’ll try it any way.

This is a personal note, but I’m afraid I’ll be using the “we” most of the time, because the way I feel, I know it’s the way the rest of us, your Spanish Jose whanau feel and of course my sister.

Since the first second when we arrived in Gisborne until the last moment when we departed from Rotorua, our days with you seem to me now a wonderful dream.

I was impressed by what being a Jose means to you. I feel extremely honoured by those feelings. You shared with us the greatest thing you could share; you made us one of you when you opened the door of your sacred places, your Maraes, not only for us to see them, but to live in them. I just hope we deserved such an honour.

Also we had the privilege to hear from you about Maui, Tinirau & his pet whale and many others. We could as well learn about the meaning of the impressive carvings and paintings that we have seen in your Maraes.

You left behind your homes, your jobs, your daily tasks, even the other part of your family, to stay with us, to take care of us, to show us the land that one day, many years ago, it was Manuel Jose land.

It is very difficult to find the words to express how grateful I’m to you. We all are.

Thanks for every single second you present me, us, during the days when we learn what being a Jose is. I want you to know that we are taking this feelings with us sharing them with our friends, our colleages and of course the rest of the family. By now every one of them knows how special to us you are.

Every one we met along the different days and places during our stay with you became someone very special to us, and be sure has already a place in my heart.

The only thing I dare to say is that you have part of your family in this country on the other side of the world, and despite the distance we will manage to feel as close as if we were living just on the other side of the road.

Just a few more words to tell you that the trip I did with my sister around the South island was great, we enjoyed very much your country.

We’re already counting down the days for 2012.

My name is Rebekah Corlett (nee Gush) my mum is Cilla Gush, my dad is Sam Manuel - son of Whioparae Manuel (also known as wish manuel/manuera) & Ereti (Lettie) Kirikino.

I would like to learn more about my grandparents as I know very little about them. I know my grandfather was a member of the maori battalion & my nannys mothers name was Te Rina Ward. Would love also to hear from any whanau out there & find out how we are all connected in the Manuel Jose family tree

I have a daughter - Sophia, 2 yrs, she is apparently the image of her nanny lettie. Would love to see some pics of her as I have only one from the rongohaere website.

I am Joe the eldest son of Bobby (Christina) Dahlberg nee Manuel who was from the top farm in Kutarere.
I take the whanu back to the farm when we are able and catch up with the whanau.
Currently living in Masterton Wairarapa and I have been with Anne for 23 years, we have 2 kids (Tiana-21 yrs and Niko 17 yrs) also 2 moko (Josef 4 yrs and Tyree 3 yrs)

A very sad loss to the world. I have only know doug for 3 years and dealy loved hime for his good humour and love for people. He was always happy to see us when we (Maria and I) visited him either at his house or where ever we could find him.

i have both the revised edition of Olive branches and the Ola Jose books which i am currently scanning to be placed on disc but am desparately trying to find a copy of the first edition of Olive Branches,so that i can place this on disc as well.

On the internet site bdmhistoricalrecords.govt.nz we found their maariage was registered on 17.1.1875. Found some of their children on there too.
I descend from Hohaia Paniora who went to Waimamaku in the Far North, maybe gumdigging? Does anyone know anything about this branch?

I have just updated our whakapapa, what a mission - lol. Just need to get the family to double check my info to make sure I have it right.

I have had to add 3 generations!

You fullas probably know where to send your whakapapa by now, but I thought I'd add this in case anyone else visits the site:

Send your whakapapa information to:- Edda McCabe
Email: eddam@xtra.co.nz

(Please write “Whakapapa From" and your "Name” in the SUBJECT.

Ensure you have a High Quality Virus Checker/Fire Wall AND virus check your stuff before you send it.

OR post to: PO Box 2093, GISBORNE 4040

Remember, they're not reprinting or correcting Olive Branches (The Jose Whakapapa) so you won't be able to buy a book - waah.

If you send Edda your email address, she can add you to the mailing list and keep you updated with all the meetings/minutes etc for the organising of the latest Jose hui. If you havn't heard anything, you might be like me - I changed email address and forgot to forward my new details to Edda
